The Great Southern Development Commission (GSDC)’s Community Chest Fund, AYSA and Drug Aware funded Hip Hop Workshops transpired between 15th and 24th November 2016. This culminated in live performances at the AYSA 30th Anniversary for Young House.
These workshops and recordings occurred on site at the Drug Aware Open Access Youth Arts Studio, with workshops being delivered by Dazastah, Paulie P and Bryte MC. These workshops complimented the current programs being delivered within the studio.
The following six tracks were produced, during the mentioned programs
Got Ya Back
Track written and sung by the GS TAFE Aboriginal School Based Traineeship students at the Albany Open Access Youth Arts Studio, produced by Dazastah, Bryte MC and Paulie P.
Told Ya So
Track written and sung by youth attendees at the Albany Drug Aware Open Access Youth Arts Studio, produced by Dazastah, Bryte MC and Paulie P.
South West Boys
Produce as part of the ‘Gnalla Benang’ – ‘Our Tomorrow’ program in partnership with AYSA WA, Dept of Aboriginal Health, Wanslea and Albany Senior High School and the Dept of Education. This program is aimed at engaging young Aboriginal students in education. This track was written by seven (7) boys, aged 12 to 14 years of age with Dazastah, Bryte MC and Paulie P assisting with the recording and producing process.
Noongar Boys
Produced as part of the Wanslea Moorditj Boys -More than Music program, in partnership with AYSA WA and Dept. of Aboriginal Health. This program is a music and culture program for Aboriginal boys aged 11 to 16 years of age, held at the AYSA Open Access Youth Arts Studio. This track has been written as a group process during 2016, performed by an 11 year old participant with assistance recording and production by Dazastah and Geoff Scott.
Minang Country
Produced as part of the Wanslea ‘Moorditj Boys- More than Music’ and the ‘Gnalla Benang’ – Our Tomorrow program in partnership with AYSA WA, Dept of Aboriginal Health, Wanslea and Albany Senior High School. This track was written by seven (7) boys, aged 12 to 14 years of age with Bryte MC and Paulie P assisting with the recording and producing process.
Remember Me In History
Written and performed by Dank B, a 15 year old participant of the ‘Gnalla Benang’ – ‘Our Tomorrow’ program. This program is delivered in partnership with AYSA WA, Dept of Aboriginal Health, Wanslea and Albany Senior High School. This track was produced by Paulie P and Bryte MC.
